Main Street Skowhegan (MSS) seeks a professional, community-minded, team player to lead and expand our Skowhegan Outdoors initiative.
This position will focus on strengthening partnerships, enhancing inclusive outdoor recreation opportunities, and managing a team to execute impactful outdoor programs. Working collaboratively with local, regional, and statewide partners and stakeholders, as well as the MSS team, the Manager will ensure that Skowhegan Outdoors provides access to the outdoors for all ages and abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management and Team Leadership
Serve as the primary supervisor for the Skowhegan Outdoors AmeriCorps program, overseeing a team of Outdoor Rec Facilitators.
Plan, coordinate, and finalize monthly outdoor activity schedules, ensuring effective team communication and collaboration.
Lead or co-lead outdoor programs and provide hands-on guidance and training in activities such as mountain biking, paddling, skiing, and more.
Career Pathways Coordination
Work with program partners to research and test career pathways, piloting pathways with AmeriCorps members in 2025 to provide proof-of-concept for 2026 launch.
Coordinate with partners, plan, and lead training sessions for AmeriCorps members, staff, students, volunteers, and community members.
Community Engagement and Partnership Building
Cultivate and manage relationships with local partners, such as schools, businesses, and outdoor organizations, to strengthen Skowhegan’s outdoor recreational network.
Serve as the liaison for volunteers, recruiting and organizing community leaders to guide outdoor programs.
Expand community outreach by establishing new partnerships, supporting the growth of outdoor initiatives, and promoting inclusivity in outdoor recreation.
Operational Oversight and Data Management
Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, regulation, and management protocols, including insurance, risk management, grant management, health, and safety; confirm that all EAPs and loop plans are complete prior to each program.
Maintain databases and ensure accurate data capture and reporting on program participation and outcomes; compile data and submit quarterly reports to AmeriCorps.
Collaborate on grant applications and manage tasks for successful grants, including reimbursements.
Provide periodic progress reports to the President & CEO and Board of Directors; work with the MSS leadership to develop future direction for the program.
Marketing and Promotion
Oversee marketing efforts for Skowhegan Outdoors, coordinating with the MSS marketing team to develop content for social media, newsletters, and events.
Assist in reviewing and editing promotional materials to ensure alignment with MSS’s mission and goals.
Work closely with the Events and Marketing Manager to support seamless program execution and maximize impact across all MSS outdoor initiatives.
Develop relationships with businesses and donors; seek sponsorships for activities, trainings, and events to support the program.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in outdoor program management, team leadership, and collaboration with community partners.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and comfort with public speaking and community engagement.
Proficiency with marketing tools, including social media and email management; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and graphic design tools is a plus.
Direct experience in facilitating outdoor recreation activities (e.g., hiking, paddling, biking, skiing).
Willingness to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions and engage in physical tasks (lifting 50+ lbs, trail maintenance, etc.).
A deep passion for outdoor recreation and community development.
Certifications preferred or willingness to attain: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Maine Recreational Guide License.
