The primary goal of The Playhouse is to provide a home for the Aqua City Actors Theater (ACAT). However, this is part of a grander vision to expand the “cultural center” of Waterville to encompass a larger area of the community, both geographically and conceptually. We hope to complement other cultural hubs in the city with community-oriented “playful” arts, culture, education, and performance.

Founded in 1813, Colby is one of America's most selective colleges. With the new Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion, expanded collection, and vibrant exhibition program, the Colby Museum, and consequently Waterville, is a destination to experience great art. The Museum serves as a central site for intellectual engagement, artistic contemplation, and social activity. As a primary teaching resource for the College and the greater community, the Museum sits at the crossroads of interdisciplinary thinking and facilitates stimulating encounters between students, faculty, and community members who share the liberal arts experience.

Waterville is part of the Kennebec-Chaudière Corridor, an international arts and culture route. Maine is known as “Vacationland,” and it's easy to see why, with access to mountains, islands, beaches, rocky cliffs and some of the nation's best food, arts, and cultural amenities. Waterville is located a little more than an hour from Maine's biggest city, Portland, which offers students many opportunities for entertainment, internships, and field trips. We're also close to metropolitan areas including Lewiston/Auburn, Bangor, and Augusta, the state's capitol city. We benefit from our close access to these urban areas, but it's easy to get away into nature from here—come visit us and experience Waterville and beyond for yourself!
