Northeast Laboratory Services (NEL) offers several fully accredited environmental testing laboratories as well as a full-scale culture media manufacturing facility. NEL has two facilities, employing over 75 full and part time positions which include administrators, laboratory technicians, support service personnel, and production technicians. The Winslow location at 227 China Road houses administrative offices, support staff, water testing labs, and the media manufacturing department. Food microbiology, radon, asbestos, and IAQ laboratories are located at 120 Main Street in Westbrook.  History The business was founded in 1972 as Maine Poultry Consultants and later became Maine Poultry Consultants/Northeast Laboratory Services. After a decline in the poultry business in Maine, causing the closure of Maine Poultry Consultants, the business served its environmental and culture media clients under the name of Northeast Laboratory Services (NEL) for the next several years. In April of 2001, Northeast Laboratories Services was purchased back by one of its original founders, Mr. Rodney “Beau” Mears.  Upon his retirement in November 2021, NEL was acquired by AnalytiChem Holding out of Germany, joining the ranks of several other prestigious laboratory support companies including SCP Science, Chem Service, and Oreas. Today, NEL's acting CEO is Raoul Biskupek.
