Accelerating Economic Mobility for Maine Students!

  • 57% of JA Alumni say that their work ethic was positively influenced by JA learning experiences.
  • 54% of JA Alumni share that their money management skills were positively influenced in some way by the program.
  • 89% of JA Alumni agree that the program exposed them to different ways of thinking, and agree that it made them think of new work opportunities or career paths.
  • 87% believe that it widened their horizons.

Junior Achievement of Maine bridges the gap between in-school learning and real world opportunity through hands-on experiences, building skill sets, and highlighting career pathways in Maine. This supports students in envisioning choice filled futures and reach their full potentials, while also building a robust talent pipeline for the state and your individual company.

There are five ways to volunteer:

  • Traditional Classroom
    • Volunteers deliver five, 45-minute JA lessons in a selected K-12 classroom across multiple weeks. Traditional programs provide flexible date and time of day options for the volunteer. You choose the grade level and school you want to work with while teachers stay in the classroom with you. All materials and volunteer training are provided.

  • JA In A Day
    • JA learning experiences are condensed from a multi-week program to a single school day where students rotate through JA sessions. A typical day is from 8AM-2PM. JA in a Day is a great team-building opportunity, bringing employees from one or several companies together for a high-paced and high energy experience. All materials and volunteer training are provided.

  • JA Career Speaker
    • Guest speakers share information about their career, work and educational background. Speakers bring props and other visuals to engage students in an activity that illustrates the career field or relevant work-readiness skill. Career speakers commit to a 1-hour experience in a single K-12 classroom or they may present to several classes in a ½ day program.
  • JA Job Shadow
    • Job Shadow takes learning beyond the classroom and brings students to businesses within their community. Companies host middle or high school students for a ½ day on-site experience which highlights different careers and departments within the organization. Job Shadow is a hands-on and engaging way to highlight Maine companies and career opportunities within the state.

  • JA Titan Experience
    • This 5-lesson high school learning experience culminates in a dynamic statewide Titan of Business Challenge. Volunteers teach and share strategy in R&D, budgeting, Corporate Social Responsibility and marketing as students learn what it takes to be the CEO of a cell-phone company.

If you would like to get your company involved with Junior Achievement of Maine by volunteering, reach out to Program Manager, Mikaela Ziobro, mziobro@jamaine.org.

Kennebec Valley Tourism Council
(207) 623-4883

Maine's Kennebec Valley is one of the eight Maine tourism regions. Named for the Kennebec River which runs down the center of the region, The Kennebec Valley includes the cities and towns contained in both Kennebec and Somerset counties. The region contains Maine's capital city Augusta as well as Gardiner, Hallowell, Waterville, Skowhegan and Jackman and the recreational resort communities near Monmouth, Belgrade, and The Forks. It also contains a few outlying towns including Rockwood-on-Moosehead, China, and Pittsfield. The Kennebec Valley Tourism Council (KVTC) is a 501(C)6 non-profit group organized to manage the Maine Tourism Marketing Partnership Program (MTMPP) grant issued each year by the Maine Office of Tourism and the state of Maine to each of the eight Maine tourism regions. Funds from the MTMPP regional grant are allocated for use in the promotion of tourism in each of the eight tourism regions of Maine. The KVTC has the responsibility to create a tourism plan for our region and then use the proceeds raised through the KVTC's own efforts in coordination with the grant funds to implement that plan. This website, the brochures we produce, trade and travel shows attended, social media efforts and all the activities our board undertakes to further the cause of tourism in Maine's Kennebec Valley are meant to produce a positive economic impact on our region.
